Effingham Road

London, se12

Set within the South East London Borough of Lewisham, the single storey wrap around extension creates a large and bright kitchen, dining and family space overlooking the garden and complements the original victorian family home. A loft conversion also provides a compact additional bedroom and ensuite overlooking the front and rear of the house.

The ground floor extension retains the side pedestrian access while the inclusion of a small courtyard off it allows not only natural light back into the main house but also views from one to the other. The extension is formed using traditional construction methods, but taking the doors overlooking the garden and the glazing into the small courtyard up to the top of the roof line, provides a sense of verticality to the elevations.

Internal timber joinery and parquet flooring gives the space a rich and warm feeling, complemented by furniture and lighting. At night, the ground floor space lights up and takes on a different relationship with the garden and inner courtyard spaces beyond.
